Judge Cristian M. Stevens was sworn in as a United States District Judge on July 24, 2025. Chief Judge Stephen R. Clark presided over the ceremony attended by court staff and family members. Judge Stevens fills a vacancy created by Judge Audrey G. Fleissig’s taking senior status.
Judge Stevens is a 1998 graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law, where he was editor-in-chief of the Missouri Law Review. Judge Stevens began his legal career as a law clerk to Chief Judge Pasco M. Bowman II of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Judge Stevens was an associate at the law firm of Bryan Cave and, later, a partner at Armstrong Teasdale. For 15 years, he served as an assistant United States Attorney at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri, where he tried numerous cases in federal and state courts and argued dozens of appeals before the Eighth Circuit. Before taking office as a District Judge, Judge Stevens was First Assistant Attorney General to then-Attorney General of Missouri Eric Schmitt and served as a judge on the Missouri Court of Appeals–Eastern District.
Judge Stevens stated he is honored to serve as a District Judge. He acknowledged his many friends and colleagues on the Court and emphasized his commitment to the rule of law and to upholding the Constitution. Chief Judge Stephen R. Clark welcomed Judge Stevens to the Court, saying “We are delighted to have Judge Stevens join us as a colleague on our Court, and we know he will continue to uphold the rule of law fairly and impartially.”
